out and about – perspectives on performing arts in public spaces

In 2021 the BUTIÖR was proud to produce and implement the project “Out and About – Perspectives on the Performing Arts in Public Spaces”. The project was realised with the kind support of #TakeNote and the NEUSTARTKULTUR Fond.

The project explored the relevance of artistic appropriation of – and engagement with – public space, both discursively and artistically. The focus lay on the the positioning of outdoor performances in the face of social and political change. Furthermore, we discussed the possibility of our art-form to initiate and shape social processes.

The project was divided into 3 modules

1. A Digital KickOff from the 12^th to the 15^th of April 2021
2. Five satellite events linked to five international street theatre festivals in Germany that took place between May and September, 2021
3. A concluding three-day symposium from the 22^nd to the 24^th of October, 2021, at Hangar 21 in Detmold.

Out and About – Perspectives on the Performing Arts in Public Spaces was supported by Fonds Darstellende Künste with funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media within the program NEUSTART KULTUR.
